Job Purpose

 

The Assistant School Counselor supports the school counselor in promoting students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development. The role involves providing individual and small-group support, assisting with student wellbeing initiatives, maintaining appropriate student records, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and school leadership to address student needs.

About the role

 

The Assistant School Counselor plays an important role in supporting students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development. Working closely with the School Counselor and Head of Primary, the Assistant Counselor helps create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where students feel valued and able to succeed.

 

The role involves providing day-to-day student support, conducting check-ins, assisting with individual and group counseling activities, identifying students who may need additional support, and helping implement wellbeing and social-emotional learning programs. The Assistant School Counselor also works collaboratively with teachers, parents, and school leadership to promote student wellbeing and address concerns appropriately.

 

 

About you

 

We are looking for a caring, approachable, and student-centered School Counselor who is passionate about supporting the wellbeing and development of young people. The successful candidate will be an excellent listener and communicator, able to build trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

 

You will demonstrate empathy, professionalism, cultural awareness, and sound judgment, with the ability to support students through academic, social, emotional, and personal challenges. You will be proactive in promoting positive mental health, resilience, inclusion, and a safe and supportive school environment.

 

Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students. You will also be able to meet visa-related restrictions for Qatar, including candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Counselling, Psychology or equivalent.

 

The Successful candidate will possess:

    • Preferably under husband/family sponsorship
    • 2 years’ experience as a Counselor
    • Excellent English speaker

 

Qualifications and Skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in counselling, Psychology or equivalent
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a related field
    • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Knowledge of social-emotional learning and student wellbeing programs.
    • Experience with student information systems and counseling documentation.
