JOB PURPOSE

Our New York school is seeking a Part-Time Human Resources Director to serve as a trusted advisor to school leadership and a champion for our people and culture. This role offers approximately 20 hours per week (around 4 hours per day) and is ideal for an experienced HR professional who enjoys being both strategic and hands-on in a close-knit environment.

Reporting directly to the Principal, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Regional Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Director is a key member of the School Senior Leadership Team. The role is also supported by Nord Anglia Education's experienced US Shared Services Team, providing expertise and assistance in areas such as payroll, benefits administration, HR systems, and employee lifecycle processes.

This is a highly hands-on HR leadership role. Working within a small team environment, you will be involved in all aspects of the employee experience, including:

KEY RESULTS AREA

 

Key Duties

This is a highly hands-on and collaborative HR leadership role within a small school environment. While working in matrix organization with the Regional HR Director, Regional HR Team, and US Shared Services Team, the role requires the successful candidate to actively manage both strategic and day-to-day HR operations, ensuring an exceptional employee experience and consistent execution of all people processes at the school level.

Leadership

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to the Principal and Senior Leadership Team, providing practical and strategic HR guidance to support school priorities, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Embraces and champions NAISNY and Nord Anglia Education's vision, values, culture, and people practices, leading by example and fostering a positive employee experience.
  • Coaches and supports managers on all aspects of people leadership, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, workforce planning, and compliance.
  • Trains and advises managers on interviewing, hiring, performance feedback, disciplinary processes, investigations, and employment law requirements.
  • Operates effectively within a matrix organization, balancing local school priorities with regional and group HR initiatives, policies, and standards.
  • Acts as the key liaison between the school, Regional HR team, and Shared Services team, ensuring alignment, communication, and consistent implementation of HR processes and initiatives.
  • Supports change management, organizational initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts within the school and broader Nord Anglia network.

Administration, Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensures compliance with all Nord Anglia Education policies, school policies, and applicable federal, state, and local employment regulations.
  • Maintains responsibility for the accurate and timely execution of employee lifecycle processes, including hiring, onboarding, employment changes, leaves of absence, and terminations.
  • Partners closely with the US Shared Services team to ensure payroll, benefits administration, HR systems transactions, employee documentation, and compliance processes are completed accurately and on time.
  • Reviews payroll inputs, approvals, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to payroll processing.
  • Maintains the highest standards of data integrity across HRIS, payroll, benefits, and employee records systems, ensuring employee information is accurate, complete, and updated in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all employee transactions, including hires, transfers, status changes, and terminations, are processed promptly and accurately within SuccessFactors and related systems.
  • Monitors and audits HR data quality, reporting relationships, organizational structures, and employee records to ensure accurate reporting and workforce analytics.
  • Produces and analyzes HR metrics and reports for school and regional leadership, providing insights on headcount, turnover, vacancies, onboarding, engagement, compensation, and other workforce trends.
  • Supports annual reporting cycles and people processes, including headcount planning, compensation reviews, talent reviews, safeguarding compliance, and engagement surveys.
  • Ensures timely coordination of COBRA notifications, benefits updates, employee separations, and system access changes in partnership with Shared Services.
  • Maintains accurate personnel files and ensures all HR documentation is completed, retained, and managed in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Supports budget planning and monitoring of HR-related costs, including recruitment, staffing, benefits, and workforce expenditures.
  • Coordinates HR-related communications and key people-process calendars, ensuring deadlines and stakeholder expectations are effectively managed.

Workforce Planning, Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Leads workforce planning and staffing discussions in partnership with the Principal, SLT, and academic leaders to ensure appropriate staffing to support school growth and student outcomes.
  • Manages the recruitment lifecycle for school-based positions, ensuring a high-quality candidate experience and compliance with recruitment standards.
  • Partners with Regional HR, Marketing, and hiring managers to strengthen employer branding and attract high-quality talent.
  • Manages relationships with recruitment agencies and external vendors, monitoring performance, service quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Oversees onboarding processes, ensuring all new employees complete required documentation, compliance checks, safeguarding requirements, and induction activities.
  • Coordinates comprehensive onboarding plans with managers, including first-day, 30-day, and 90-day integration and engagement activities.
  • Ensures workforce planning data, recruitment activity, vacancy reporting, and onboarding metrics are accurately maintained and reported.

Employee Relations & Performance Management

  • Promotes a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture consistent with Nord Anglia's values.
  • Serves as the first point of contact and trusted advisor for employee relations matters, providing timely, balanced, and compliant guidance.
  • Conducts employee investigations and supports conflict resolution processes in partnership with Regional HR when required.
  • Advises managers on performance concerns, corrective action processes, documentation requirements, and employment decisions.
  • Leads annual performance management processes, including goal setting, mid-year reviews, and end-of-year evaluations.
  • Supports mobility, visa, and relocation matters for international employees in partnership with specialist providers and Regional HR.
  • Identifies employee relations trends and proactively recommends solutions to improve engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness.

Talent Review & Succession Planning

  • Coordinates annual talent review and succession planning processes, ensuring accurate documentation, reporting, and follow-up actions.
  • Partners with school leaders to identify high-potential talent and development opportunities.
  • Supports participation in Nord Anglia leadership programs, learning initiatives, and talent development activities.
  • Provides talent insights and workforce data to support succession and organizational planning discussions.

Engagement & Culture

  • Maintains accurate organizational structures and reporting lines within SuccessFactors to support workforce reporting and engagement survey accuracy.
  • Drives participation in engagement surveys and other employee feedback initiatives.
  • Facilitates leadership and team discussions on survey results and employee feedback.
  • Partners with leaders to develop, implement, and monitor engagement action plans.
  • Tracks progress and reports on engagement initiatives, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Supports initiatives that strengthen employee wellbeing, recognition, inclusion, and organizational culture.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Conducts market benchmarking and compensation analysis to support attraction, retention, and pay competitiveness.
  • Supports annual compensation review processes and approval workflows.
  • Acts as the local HR contact for benefits, compensation, and policy-related inquiries, partnering closely with Regional HR and Shared Services teams.
  • Ensures accurate administration of employee leave programs and related documentation in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Supports employee education and communication concerning benefits, policies, and HR programs.
  • Monitors compensation and benefits data quality to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.

Matrix Organization, Shared Services & Regional Partnership

  • Serves as the primary HR liaison between the school, Regional HR team, US Shared Services team, and Group HR functions, ensuring seamless delivery of people processes and services.
  • Operates effectively within a matrix organization, balancing local school needs with regional and global HR priorities, standards, policies, and initiatives.
  • Builds strong partnerships with Shared Services teams to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, benefits administration, employee lifecycle transactions, HR systems updates, leave administration, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensures clear ownership, timely follow-up, and resolution of HR-related requests between school stakeholders and Shared Services teams.
  • Acts as a champion for standardized HR processes, driving consistency, compliance, and operational excellence across the employee lifecycle.
  • Supports the implementation of regional and global HR initiatives, programs, systems, policies, and organizational changes at the school level.
  • Maintains effective communication with Regional HR leadership regarding workforce trends, employee relations matters, staffing challenges, compliance risks, and school priorities.
  • Collaborates with Finance, Safeguarding, Admissions, and school leadership teams to ensure alignment between people priorities and business objectives.
  • Leverages regional expertise and best practices while adapting solutions to meet local school needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve service delivery, enhance employee experience, and strengthen data quality.
  • Ensures strong governance and accountability across HR processes through regular monitoring, reporting, and partnership with Shared Services and Regional HR teams.
  • Promotes a culture of collaboration, transparency, service excellence, and shared accountability across all HR stakeholders.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a matrix organization, collaborating with local leadership, regional teams, and shared services functions.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, compliance, and HR operations .
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience supporting the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Experience working with HRIS (Success factors) and payroll systems (HR Connect), maintaining accurate employee records and ensuring data integrity.
  • Ability to analyze HR data, prepare reports, and provide workforce insights to leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a hands-on environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an HR Manager, HR Business Partner, or Human Resources Director.
  • Experience working in an independent school, educational institution, nonprofit, or other mission-driven organization.
  • Experience supporting international employees, visa processes, or relocation matters.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to use HR metrics and analytics to drive decision-making and improve organizational performance.
  • Passion for education and working in a purpose-led environment.

Additional Information

If hired for this position, the annual salary part time position range is between $45,000 - $70,000. The salary offered may vary depending on your professional experience and skills. Competitive benefits for benefits eligible roles include related to a part time position and full tuition remission for upto 3 children in our school.
