YOUR PROFILE

 

At Beau Soleil, student wellbeing is at the heart of our pastoral care. 
We are looking for an experienced School Counsellor to provide short-term cover and support our international boarding school community.


You will provide confidential and professional support to students experiencing emotional, social, behavioural or adjustment difficulties, helping them navigate the challenges of adolescence and life away from home.
Working closely with our pastoral, boarding, safeguarding and academic teams, you will help ensure that students receive appropriate and timely support in a safe and caring environment.


We are looking for someone who can quickly build trusting relationships with young people and who brings a calm, empathetic and professional approach to sensitive situations.
This is an 80% position, starting as soon as possible and initially running until the end of November 2026, with the possibility of extension.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide confidential individual counselling and wellbeing support to students
  • Assess students’ needs and develop appropriate short-term support strategies
  • Support students experiencing emotional, social, relational or adjustment difficulties
  • Work closely with pastoral, boarding and academic teams to support student wellbeing
  • Contribute to safeguarding and child protection procedures, working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Liaise appropriately with parents and external professionals when required
  • Maintain accurate and confidential counselling records
  • Provide support in urgent or sensitive student wellbeing situations

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling or a related field
  • Professional training in counselling or psychotherapy
  • Recognised professional accreditation, or eligibility for accreditation, would be an advantage
  • Fluent English is essential; French would be an advantage

 

EXPERIENCE

 

  • 3–5 years’ experience working with children or adolescents
  • Experience in an international or boarding school environment would be an advantage
  • Experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds

  • Warm, empathetic and able to build trust with adolescents
  • Calm and professional when dealing with sensitive or challenging situations
  • High level of discretion and professional ethics
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Culturally sensitive and comfortable working in an international environment
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
